What is NightRange?

NightRange is a premium narrative cybersecurity training platform - a cinematic cyber range where every challenge sits inside a story.

Think Mr. Robot meets Khan Academy meets MMO progression. Real hacking labs (Docker containers, real exploits, real flags) wrapped in voiced spy narrative, recurring NPC characters, and a persistent player rig that grows across every operation.

Hacking practice that feels like the show you binge - voiced characters, real exploits, a persistent operator profile, and a world that remembers what you did.

How it's different

We're not trying to beat TryHackMe on room count or HackTheBox on hardcore realism. We're defining a different lane:

The Range - every discipline

The same engine that runs the current op is being extended across every discipline a security professional touches. Beta users see these tracks land progressively - each one a narrative campaign, not a content dump.

PvE tracks landing across the beta period: Red Team (operator missions, skill tree, detection meter, co-op); Blue Team / Defense (SIEM, log analysis, network monitoring, threat hunting); Malware Analysis (Ghidra, FLARE-VM, REMnux, PCAP); Malware Creation in lab-isolated environments (shellcode, persistence, EDR evasion, C2 framework labs); Incident Response (triage simulations, containment, chain-of-custody); Forensics (disk, memory, network, mobile, cloud); OSINT; IoT and Embedded (firmware extraction, ARM/MIPS reversing, QEMU-emulated router challenges); ICS / 3D PLC Lab (industrial control systems via OpenPLC + FUXA).

PvP (live red-vs-blue competitive play) is designed and waits on anti-cheat work before it ships to beta.

FAQ

What is NightRange in one sentence?
A premium narrative cybersecurity training platform - a cinematic cyber range where every challenge sits inside a story.
What is a Realm?
A self-contained narrative arc with multi-container labs you spawn from your rig. Each Realm has its own NPCs, story scenes, and per-challenge state. Realms are solo, not team-based. They are persistent: your progress carries across sessions.
What is the rig?
The desktop-in-the-browser environment every player gets at login. Real terminal, real tools, real per-player labs. No install, no VM image, no VPN. Your handle, loadout, and progress carry across every operation.
What's a Sprint Race?
Solo time-attacks, live concurrent events, team relays, and bracket tournaments. Race the clock and the field. Sprint Races run on a schedule alongside the persistent ops; leaderboards publish at the end of each window.
What's a Bounty?
World-boss events: one shot, one loadout, fixed window. Standard bounties run to a deadline with multiple winners. Nightmare bounties close platform-wide on first blood. Hall of Fame is permanent.
What's the Codex?
The canon index of every recurring character across NightRange operations. Voiced NPCs, scene appearances, lore entries. Your profile tracks every character you've met in-world across every op you've run.
Why a closed beta?
We're calibrating difficulty curves, hint economy, and the rig provisioning pipeline against early players. Once those are stable, registration opens to the public.
How do I get in?
Closed beta is invite-only via NaClCon. Pick up a card at the conference and redeem it at naclcon.nightrange.io. On June 4, 2026 (two days after NaClCon ends), the full platform unlocks for every account that redeemed a NaClCon card. Open beta (public registration with no card required) will be announced later.
Is the platform open-source?
The platform runtime is closed-source. Authored content (NPC voice clips, scene scripts) is released under creator-specific licenses tied to each CTF or Realm. Authoring SDKs ship later in the roadmap.
What about Discord?
The NightRange Discord goes live alongside public registration. Closed-beta players already have a private channel; the invite arrives with your access email.
Privacy and data?
We collect the minimum needed to operate accounts. We do not sell player data. Lab containers spin up per player and run on our infrastructure. Don't store private or sensitive files on your rig: some parts of the rig persist between sessions, and everything is deleted when your account is deleted.
